IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL SCHEDULE.

John Smyth Elementary, via CPS, now has a new schedule. The start time for all students will now be 8:30am and the school day will end at 3:30pm. As we continue to strive for the well-being and attendance of our students we hope that the changes produce better attendance. Resources may also be available through our parent advocate Ms. Winston.
Smyth has events happening weekly and monthly! Check out the calendar below to see what we have coming up next for both CPS and Smyth Elementary.

Jay-Z has openly discussed his journey with mental health, emphasizing the importance of therapy to process trauma, manage emotions, and break the stigma, particularly within the Black community. He revealed that therapy helped him overcome "survival mode" mentality, leading to personal growth and improved relationships.

  • Therapy Experience: Jay-Z began therapy around 2017, describing it as a transformative experience that allowed him to connect his emotions and understand his past.
  • Addressing Trauma: He has used therapy and music to navigate childhood trauma, including his father's abandonment, growing up in poverty, and the pressures of his upbringing.
  • Combating Stigma: Jay-Z has criticized the stigma surrounding mental health, arguing that seeking help is a sign of strength and that therapy should be accessible, even suggesting therapists in schools.
  • 4:44 Album as Therapy: His 2017 album 4:44 served as a deeply personal, therapeutic project where he addressed his infidelity, emotions, and personal growth.
  • Emotional Growth: Therapy helped him transition from a hardened, emotional shutdown state—a necessity in his early life—to a place of greater vulnerability and emotional intelligence
The IB Learner Attribute for the month of JUNE is "Reflective":

*Utilizing feedback to adjust study habits and strategies, leading to better academic and personal outcomes.

*  Assessing their experiences and actions to understand their impact.

* Actively seeking and considering diverse perspectives and constructive feedback.

* We go beyond surface-level thinking to analyze actions and their impact, actively seeking to understand, improve, and grow in both academic and personal contexts.
