IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL SCHEDULE.

John Smyth Elementary, via CPS, now has a new schedule. The start time for all students will now be 8:30am and the school day will end at 3:30pm. As we continue to strive for the well-being and attendance of our students we hope that the changes produce better attendance. Resources may also be available through our parent advocate Ms. Winston.

Kamala Harris served as the 49th Vice President of the United States from 2021 to 2025, becoming the first woman, the first African American, and the first South Asian American to hold the office. Sworn in on January 20, 2021, she was a key figure in the Biden-Harris administration, focusing on voting rights, reproductive freedom, and economic recovery. 
Key facts about Kamala Harris's historic vice presidency include:

• Background: Born in 1964, she previously served as a U.S. Senator for California (2017–2021) and Attorney General of California (2011–2017).
• 2024 Election: Following President Biden's withdrawal from the race, she became the Democratic Party's nominee for president in the 2024 election.

• Historic Milestones: She is the first woman to hold the office of Vice President, breaking a long-standing barrier in American politics.
• Tie-Breaking Votes: She set a record for the most tie-breaking votes cast by a vice president in Senate history.
• Key Initiatives:
  She led efforts on protecting abortion access and championed voting rights.
